Phonemes are written between <<>> double angle brackets and separated with | bars. For example, Cartesia is written <<k|ɑ|ɹ|ˈ|t|i|ʒ|ə>>. The easiest way to figure out the IPA phonemes for any given word is to use our Phoneme tool, which can give guidance in phoneme creation.

Manually creating phonemes

If you want to create phonemes manually, Sonic 3.5 and Sonic 3 use charsiu phonesets. For English, see the phoneme reference below.
